Starting a New Business? The Checklist You Should Have
By Days Look | August 14, 2008
Starting up a new business is definitely an exciting time full of promise along with a bit of uncertainty as well. Many people enter into this type of venture thinking all they really need is a clear vision and the related know how to become a success, but when in reality, having a concrete plan in place with a checklist of important issues to remember is the best way to create a name for yourself in the world of small business.

Here are six of the most important things you’ll want to incorporate into your own business plan:
1. Business Structure: All new businesses should begin with a set structure in mind, which is particularly important for tax purposes. Familiarize yourself with the different types, including sole proprietor-ships, which is the simplest choice if you’re going into business either by yourself or with your spouse, and general partnerships, which are two or more parties who have invested in the business and will share in the operations as well as the profits.
Other, more involved business structures include LLCs, which is a Limited Liability Company and C Corporations, in which case you’ll definitely need the assistance of legal counsel.
2. Communication: Regardless of the actual type of business you’ll be doing you will need a means of communicating with clients, and to market yourself as well. If you will be conducting business from home, a dedicated phone line is a must have, and is also a tax deduction that you can add to your list of deductible expenses.
You can also rent a P.O. box from your local post office to add an air of professionalism if you are conducting your business from home and add it to all of your marketing materials.
3. Discipline: Never forget the all important aspect of discipline when it comes to starting a business. While most of us are gung ho in the beginning, it does take a definite amount of discipline to keep yourself in check and turn your efforts into real profits.
Set a time schedule, set definitive business hours and follow a daily to-do list to keep yourself on track. Without discipline, organization and some semblance of order, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll find yourself in over your head and completely frustrated.
4. Finances: It’s also imperative to have a set plan in place in regards to the financial end of running your business, otherwise, the likelihood of failing, or at least finding yourself in dire straits financially, is greatly increased.
By all means, if you feel you aren’t able to handle this aspect of your business yourself, hire a professional to do the job for you as the money spent is more than worth the extra expense, which again, can also be deducted as a business expense.
5. Tax Time: All businesses that turn a profit are required to pay taxes at the federal and state levels, so you’ll want to find out exactly what that means for your type of business before tax time draws near. Head to the Internal Revenue Service’s website to find the answers to all of your tax related questions. Here’s a link to a plethora of information for small businesses and those who are self employed http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/index.html
6. The Home Office: Finding space within your home that you can turn into a home office can often be tricky, unless, of course, you already have an extra room just waiting to be transformed. Forget sitting at the kitchen table or in a corner of the living room, even if you do have a laptop computer as you’ll never be able to reach your true potential in terms of productivity with so many possible distractions just waiting to happen.
If you are limited to the corner of a room that’s already being used for something else, invest in a small room divider screen to at least help define the space a bit. Don’t forget the garage, the attic, enclosed porches, and large walk-in closets for turning into an office area.

Small Business Owners - Try These Design Tips to Create a Professional Looking Company Newsletter
By Days Look | August 14, 2008
If you’re the owner of a small business, the thought of creating a company newsletter or ezine can be a little scary. If you have little or no graphics design experience you may not know what to do to create a professional looking ezine or newsletter, and not one that screams, “I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF!”
One way around this it to hire someone to create the newsletter for you. But not every small business owner has the funds for this. Still, a company newsletter is one of the best marketing tools you can create for your business. So try the following tips and develop a professional looking newsletter you’ll be proud of:
1. Pick one font for headlines and subheads, another for text. A good combination is a bold sans serif headline font (like Futura ExtraBold Condensed or Helvetica Heavy or a modern-looking font like Meta, Moderna, or Officina San Serif) paired with a simple serif font (Times, Garamond or Garamond Condensed, Galliard, etc.) for text. Use a smaller italicized version of text font for photo captions.
2. ALL text should be the same size (12 point usually, or sometimes 10 or 11 point, depending on the font); use uniform sizes for heads and subheads–larger headlines for more important articles. Most page layout and word processing programs let you set up style sheets. Set up a style for text, headlines, subheads, captions, etc. This is a very easy way to lay out the newsletter, making sure all fonts and sizes are uniform.
3. Flush left/ragged right text looks best. Justified columns can leave weird looking spaces between words, and centered headlines, text, and ads tend to give the newsletter an amateur appearance.
4. Look at some newsletters. Find a design you really like; set your newsletter up the same way - same number of columns, same size margins, and same size sidebars on each page. Don’t try to make each page have its own design. Pages should have a uniform look.
Follow these tips to create a short, simple newsletter at first. Over time, you can develop additional topics and columns for your newsletter. First, just learn the basics of creating a professional looking publication that can be used to help create a closer, ongoing relationship with your customers and clients.

Your Local Business Association - Is It Right For You?
By Days Look | August 14, 2008
As a small business owner you need to carefully pick and choose where your hard-earned money is going to go. Maybe you’ve considered joining your local business association but aren’t sure it’s worth the cost of the yearly dues, or maybe you simply don’t know enough about the benefits such an association can provide.
Annual dues for membership vary from association to association. Generally they range from $25.00 to $250.00. But, you get what you pay for, which means those with higher fees offer more benefits. Dues are used to pay for speakers, meeting rooms and special events, as well as cover any administrative and printing costs (for newsletters and other publications). They usually include a listing in the association’s directory, subscription to the monthly newsletter, and sometimes, one (business size) ad in the newsletter.
Ultimately, deciding to join your local business association is up to you, but understanding the benefits such associations provide will help you make that decision.
Ask what your local association offers in the way of:
Networking Opportunities - Most associations have several per month. Many have a weekly “Tips Club” or “Business Card Exchange” where members can share customer/client leads. Other groups offer after-hours coffees and/or monthly luncheons. All of these events give the small business owner an opportunity to build relationships with other business owners in the area who can provide insights unique to the local marketplace.
Special Insurance Rates and Information - Many associations (usually the larger ones) offer members special rates on health insurance and worker’s compensation. Some associations offer workshops to educate new business owners about the kinds of insurance they will need.
Educational Programs - Most associations (no matter how large or small) offer at least a few yearly educational programs of interest to small business owners, including workshops about tax laws, record keeping, computing for business, marketing, etc. Some do this on a monthly basis. Find out how regularly your association provides these kinds of opportunities and ask what subjects have been covered in past programs.
Security Services - Business owners who can’t afford to pay for a security service on their own pool money with other members in the association and pay to have the business area patrolled (since businesses are all within a few miles of one another). Also, some associations set up a business “Block Watch.” One business owner on each block watches out and lets everyone on that block know if anything suspicious is seen.
A Member Directory - Most associations publish a yearly directory, which lists each member’s business name, address, and phone number. These directories are given to each member and are also sent to board members of local homes associations, churches, schools, and other area groups so the entire community is made aware of the products and services available by area businesses.
Discount Rates - Often members of an association are able to pool their resources to get advertising from newspapers, radio, TV, etc. at a discount rate, as well as discounts on other products and services like shipping, pagers and cell phones, etc.
Yearly Events - Many associations sponsor a yearly event designed to increase members’ visibility within the community - something like a street fair or a festival. It’s a great way to introduce people in the community to their local business owners. An association might also offer a “Tax Day Conference” to bring representatives from every sort of tax agency under one roof to answer tax questions, conduct seminars and distribute information in a “non-threatening” environment. Individual business owners would spend a lot more money to get this kind of extensive information on their own.
Community Service Opportunities - Some business associations raise money to provide community service projects in their areas or they simply donate money to local groups. This creates goodwill between business owners and members of the community. Not only does the community benefit from this, the business owner does, too. When residents feel a local business is friendly and caring they’re more apt to buy the services or products of that business.
A Newsletter and Web Site - A monthly newsletter lets a business owner know what’s going on with other businesses in his area. It also gives him a chance to have his business spotlighted from time to time. Some associations have a “Member of the Month” featured in each newsletter, and press releases introduce new businesses to the community. Many associations now have Web sites, which give business owners even more opportunities for promoting their products and services.
A Chance to Speak Out - Joining your local business association gives you a collective voice for determining what will happen within your business neighborhood. Associations usually work together with area homes associations, schools, churches, etc. for the overall good of the community. Find out how closely these groups work together in your area.
Obviously, every association can’t offer ALL of the above benefits, but most members still find their local business association a source of invaluable support.
To find the association in your area, look in the Yellow Pages under “Business Associations” or call your Chamber of Commerce. Attend one of their meetings, ask questions, and find out if your local business association is right for you.

How To Make Money From Your Home Office
By Days Look | July 22, 2008
Make Money From Your Home Office
Now there are many steps to creating an office at home.
1. You need a computer. This will allow you to work properly and have access to many opportunities.
2. Internet Access - This enables you to go out there and make money! We’ll talk about this later.
3. Affiliate Program - These are the programs you will be promoting in order to make money. These are commission based.
4. Method To Attract Visitors - If there is no traffic then theres no money.
Now let’s talk about how to make money online. The best way is through affiliate programs. My favourite is clickbank. There is a large range of products to sale which is more flexible for you. You will be better at selling something your interested in. But that doesn’t mean you should limit yourself to just that. Think big and diverse yourself.
If you would like to sign up to clickbank, just google ‘clickbank’ and you will find it within 2 seconds.
Now make sure you choose products which are ‘hot’. To know which products are ‘hot’, go to the marketplace and look at where it says gravity, this is a good indication of the popularity of the product. The minimum I would go for is 70.
Then once you’ve found a ‘hot’ product, just cick create hoplink and then your done. You now have your affiliate link which you can promote. Now your on your way to making money from your home office.
Note - With the affiliate links I highly recommend that you cloak it some how. This will increase your conversion rates big time! Also the hoplink isnt very attractive.
The best method I found for cloaking your hoplink is by using a redirect. This is a very good to hide your affiliate link as the link in the address never changes.
Now I will explain how to create a redirect. If you have no money then try selling some products to make money to purchase a domain name. To create a redirect just purchase a domain related to the product. Then redirect it to your affiliate link.
Now that’s all sorted! We need traffic!
There are many places to gain traffic:
Forums Video Sites Link Exchanges Ad Words (I don’t recommend this. Also this costs money)
The main way which sounds tasty but I can assure it does not work. Is purchasing traffic. For example purchasing 10,000 views for 30$. This is a waste of time, and will not help you at all.
Well there you have it! Start making money from your home office. Make sure you plan what your going to do for a week follow it. Then make another plan for the next week. Then you will start to get results.

Earning Thousands Of Dollars Monthly
By Days Look | July 22, 2008
If you are not already earning thousands of dollars monthly, get SBI! You will become more than a high-earning affiliate. You will build a genuine, thriving online business with MULTIPLE strong streams of income. The above paragraph comes from one the best domain sites out there, but this article has nothing to do with that product or even the SBI company, what I’m about to deliver to you is a step by step check list of how to get started as the some of the best affiliate marketers, so that you can earn an online income selling great products like the one above. Associate programs are revenue sharing arrangements set up by companies selling products and services. As a web site owner, you are rewarded for sending customers to the company. Step one: Find your interests and passions The internet fools people into believing that all the good ideas are already taken, not true. In fact, it is has given birth too many creative wonders who are earning an income doing what they love. Find out what excites you, and then create a small niche site around it. Maybe you know all about herbs or hundreds of ways to save on your taxes. Choose something that you know a lot about and are willing to learn more on then find associated products that relate to that niche. As a goal to be one of the best affiliate marketers, it’s always best to write about products that you have firsthand experience with, affiliate marketing success is highly dependent on credibility, the more you show your browsers that you are a credible resource the better. They won’t buy your product if they feel that you are not giving an honest review of the product. Step two: Find your audience Now that you have your niche theme, its time to find your audience. Many people make the mistake of building a website and then trying to find out who would be interested in it. Work the other way around; locate your target market first. Zero in on a group of people with a particular interest or problem. Find out where they gather, what magazines or ezines they read, what web sites they visit? What email discussion groups they subscribe to. Step 3: Build a website Online promotion is easiest when you have your own domain name. There are several places to get a domain at relatively cheap price. Once you have your domain name you can load articles, audios and even videos on it. As mentioned before the best affiliate marketers have it easier when you have already built trust. Do not attempt to hard sell your prospective customers. Earn their trust by providing valuable resources before you start to soft-sell them.
